Julia Child’s baguettes

I recall watching Julia Child in black and white on public television long before the popularity of cooking shows. My father bought her cook books and explained to me that she was the real deal (Dad once lived in Paris). As a young man, I developed a flair for bread baking and Julia became my inspiration via her cookbooks borrowed from Dad. When I first dated my wife years later, she was impressed that I could bake French baguettes (Men didn't cook at home in those days). I showed her my many small adjustments to Julia's recipe. The next day she baked her much tastier variation and I was the one impressed.

This is Julia Child's baguette recipe as I recall it:

In Hawaii we call it Lilikoi

Lilikoi deserts are very popular in Hawaii and many of its famous chefs, like Alan Wong, incorporate this exotic fruit in their signature dishes. One of my friends from Australia emailed me a recipe for something she calls Pash-Tart, or passion fruit tart, and I've never had anything quite so delicious in Hawaii.

Sweet and sour like a Lilikoi - my joy! with credit to singer/song writer Paula Fuga

My quick translation of the Pash-Tart ingredients:
1 1/2 cups plain flour
1/3 cup powdered sugar
1/2 cup chilled butter, chopped
1 egg yolk
2 tablespoons chilled water
1 cup thickened cream
1/2 cup super-fine (caster) sugar
4 eggs
